Grit: Perspective of a Student Athlete
At Agnes Scott, we offer six NCAA Division III sports competing in the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS). The athletic department focuses on “development of a balance between intellectual engagement and an active lifestyle” with a focus on the “student” in student-athlete. In this guest post, four-year recruited athlete and senior Nemain Morgan-Curtis ‘23 discusses her experience as a student athlete and member of the ASC soccer team.

2022 Year-End Wrap Up
2022 is almost in the books! As we prepare for 2023, it’s worth it to look back at the events of the past year. We began to move into a new world with COVID-19 vaccines and ongoing issues surrounding global health; national and world events have been dramatically altered; and the campus itself continues to innovate and become a different place than it was at this time last year. Let’s take a look at a few of the major events of 2022:

Agnes Scott Traditions
Every college and university has its own traditions, big and small, and as both an inclusive women’s college and a small, liberal arts institution Agnes Scott has more than most. Some of them are still occurring, some have moved into the books of the past. Either way, they’re a fascinating piece of life on campus, and we would love to introduce you to a year in traditions:

Academic Major Spotlight on: History
Agnes Scott’s SUMMIT experience is front and center in the History major program. The History faculty bring an international perspective to their work, and have led student trips to Ghana, Germany, Poland, Gambia, France and Switzerland. The History major, at its base, is about deepening students’ understanding of the human experience in its multiple facets.

The College Visit Your Way
If you are in your college search, you’ve probably already heard this important piece of advice: it is important to visit the colleges you are considering, whether that’s virtually or in person. However, once you actually dive into a college’s website, you’re overwhelmed with options. Should you do a campus tour or a virtual visit? An open house or a specialty visit? What even is an interview, and should you do one?

Academic Major Spotlight on: Business Management
The Agnes Scott difference is something that is apparent in the Business Management major, according to Dr. Tom Will, Associate Professor of Business Management. “Majoring in Business Management at Agnes Scott immerses students in a more personalized experience than they would obtain at a large business school. Small, interactive class sessions enable students to really get to know their peers and their professors. We consider the major not merely informative, but transformative.”

Behind the Rankings
On Monday, U.S. News & World Report released their 2023 Best Colleges rankings. Like any other ranking system, these rankings are a little bit of an art and a little bit science. For some of their rankings, like their most innovative colleges rankings, the ranking is determined by votes from leaders at colleges around the country. For others, like the overall rankings, the rankings are a combination of “reputation” (as determined by other college leaders), graduation and retention rates, social mobility, student-faculty ratio, average class size, professor compensation, test scores of incoming classes, how much money the college has, alumni giving and the percent of graduates who have debt.

Certified Scotties Class of 2026
Each year on our social media accounts, we highlight the stories of a number of our incoming first-year students to introduce our newest Scotties to the campus community. We’re proud to present this year’s group of #CertifiedScotties.

SCALE: Preparing Students for the Future
SCALE, the Sophomore Class Atlanta Leadership Experience, is a critical piece of Agnes Scott’s distinctive SUMMIT program. During this week-long experience, all Agnes Scott sophomores complete an externship at Atlanta-area businesses and non-profit organizations to focus on leadership, collaboration and career development skills. Some notable establishments our Scotties have worked with are AT&T, Morehouse School of Medicine, Atlanta Community Food Bank and BlackRock.

What to do when you want to do everything
Some people have known exactly what they wanted to do for a long time. They know, with 100% certainty, what career they want to have and what college major they need to get there. I am not some people. I also suspect that you are not that person. You likely have many interests and careers that you’re considering, and you can’t figure out how you’re supposed to distill all of that into one college major. As someone who has definitely been there, done that, you should know that you have several different options in college that will help you meet those different interests (whatever they may be). Here’s a few…
