Why a Women’s College: From the Student Perspective
Students Talk about Their Experiences at an Inclusive Women’s College This week is “Why a Women’s College” Week, and we’re featuring a post a day from different perspectives on the value of an inclusive women’s college education. Today’s post features numerous current student perspectives on why they chose and value being part of a women’s-centered community. The Women’s College Community– Laura Cain ’22 During the college search and decision process in high school, I was honestly pretty indifferent about women’s colleges. I applied to a few that seemed like they might be a good fit, but I also applied to several co-ed institutions. Eventually I decided on Agnes Scott, primarily…

Exploring College Options and Applying during a Pandemic: “A Letter to Senior Me” sequel
An Update to the Original Post Last summer, I wrote a blog post entitled, “A Letter to Senior Year Me.” It outlined all of the things I wish I would have done to prepare for college the summer before my senior year. While I recommend perusing the original, I figured I’d save you some time and, just like any good sequel, give a synopsis of the original. It’s still summer, even if it’s a strange one for us all. Previously on Perspective: The Agnes Scott College Undergraduate Admission Blog… Alexsis highlighted 5 key “to-dos” all rising high school seniors should complete over the summer. College Admissions in the Time of COVID-19
Talking About What Happens Next When we started off our spring semester, we were prepared for one like any other. Our first-year students were getting ready to go off on their Journeys trips, the College was getting ready for big events like our Alumnae Weekend and Commencement, and our office was getting ready for our spring admitted student events. At the time, none of us had ever heard the term “social distancing,” we weren’t a college that had a lot of remote learning options, and the whispers about this new virus weren’t really hitting a concerning point. Fast-forward to now, May 2020, and we are all living in a new…

#CertifiedScottie – The Journey to Agnes Scott
This fall, Agnes Scott welcomed 300 new Scotties to Orientation. They came to us from 36 states and six countries, with 10 continuing the Scottie legacy of family members before them. They’re interested in everything from Biology/Pre-med to Dance, and our faculty are particularly excited that a significant number of them are reveling in the opportunity to explore the liberal arts and are undecided in major. We are so happy their path led them to Agnes Scott. Here are just a few of their #CertifiedScottie stories. Welcome home, ASC23!

Insecure to Unstoppable: How I Achieved Success in my First Year of College
Insecurity. That awful thing that makes you doubt the essence of who you are. These feelings are completely normal and affect every single one of us. In the current ‘technology era’, companies are now profiting from this less than satisfactory feeling all of us experience from time to time. Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat are known for their ability to influence politics and world wide movements, but also for instantly changing our societal standards of normality with a singular post.

A Letter to Senior Year Me
Dear Alexsis, It’s me, Alexsis. But from the future. It’s weird; I know. Here, I can prove it to you. Right now your summers consist of sitting poolside, eating Pop-Ice popsicles, and having outdoor picnics, right? Aside from working a part-time job at Little Caesar’s Pizza located approximately 4 minutes from your house, life is good. You wake around 11 a.m., make frozen waffles, watch reality T.V., and hang out with friends until it’s time for work.

What It Means To Be A Scottie
From Emily Davis Hamre ’15 Whenever I start preparing for a trip, lots of thoughts cross my mind. How many shirts do I really need? ls the carry-on approved size of shampoo going to be enough? Will I make any new friends? Who am I going to be by the time I return home? All across the country and the world, college-bound students are asking themselves these same questions. I think there is a certain level of anxiety that attaches itself to any new beginning, no matter if that new beginning is a short trip or involves moving across the city, the country, or the world for college. When Agnes…
