Woah! They’re (a little bit over) halfway there!
Our Class of 2026 is officially halfway through their first year at Agnes Scott. Around this time last year, many of them were in the same position as our Class of 2027 prospective Scotties - deciding what school to ultimately enroll in and call “home” for the next four years.

Grit: Perspective of a Student Athlete
At Agnes Scott, we offer six NCAA Division III sports competing in the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS). The athletic department focuses on “development of a balance between intellectual engagement and an active lifestyle” with a focus on the “student” in student-athlete. In this guest post, four-year recruited athlete and senior Nemain Morgan-Curtis ‘23 discusses her experience as a student athlete and member of the ASC soccer team.

2022 Year-End Wrap Up
2022 is almost in the books! As we prepare for 2023, it’s worth it to look back at the events of the past year. We began to move into a new world with COVID-19 vaccines and ongoing issues surrounding global health; national and world events have been dramatically altered; and the campus itself continues to innovate and become a different place than it was at this time last year. Let’s take a look at a few of the major events of 2022:
-
Agnes Scott Traditions
Every college and university has its own traditions, big and small, and as both an inclusive women’s college and a small, liberal arts institution Agnes Scott has more than most. Some of them are still occurring, some have moved into the books of the past. Either way, they’re a fascinating piece of life on campus, and we would love to introduce you to a year in traditions:

The College Visit Your Way
If you are in your college search, you’ve probably already heard this important piece of advice: it is important to visit the colleges you are considering, whether that’s virtually or in person. However, once you actually dive into a college’s website, you’re overwhelmed with options. Should you do a campus tour or a virtual visit? An open house or a specialty visit? What even is an interview, and should you do one?

Behind the Rankings
On Monday, U.S. News & World Report released their 2023 Best Colleges rankings. Like any other ranking system, these rankings are a little bit of an art and a little bit science. For some of their rankings, like their most innovative colleges rankings, the ranking is determined by votes from leaders at colleges around the country. For others, like the overall rankings, the rankings are a combination of “reputation” (as determined by other college leaders), graduation and retention rates, social mobility, student-faculty ratio, average class size, professor compensation, test scores of incoming classes, how much money the college has, alumni giving and the percent of graduates who have debt.

Certified Scotties Class of 2026
Each year on our social media accounts, we highlight the stories of a number of our incoming first-year students to introduce our newest Scotties to the campus community. We’re proud to present this year’s group of #CertifiedScotties.
-
A Year in SUMMIT
As we entered the school year in August 2021, it was with high hopes that students would be able to return to the full SUMMIT experience that makes Agnes Scott unique. While adjustments had to be made and flexibility remains the name of the game, students at Agnes Scott this year took full advantage of the SUMMIT experience.

The Real Questions
I recently participated on a panel offering advice to prospective students on their college search process. During this panel, we spoke about the value of finding your fit–the idea that identifying the colleges that you can see yourself thriving in will contribute to success during and after college. After a few of us made this point, a student unmuted and asked, “But how can you tell if a college is a good fit for you?”

Academic Major Spotlight on: Dance
Do you know what a dance major actually does when in college? While performance and dance ability are definitely skills that students learn, the Agnes Scott dance major is very academically well-rounded with a focus on the historical context of dance. “Students learn Labanotation (the language of dance) in addition to technique, drawing parallels between the technical material they experience today with the codified techniques of the past,” says Professor Bridget Roosa, Professor of Dance and Chair of Theatre and Dance.
